Windows Explorer missing "right click" paste function in Windows 7
Like a lot of folks now, I have added a SSD to put Windows 7 on and am using a regular drive for programs and data. Let me start out by saying the OS loaded great. I manually edited the registry to relocate the ProfilesDirectory , the ProgramData, and the Public and Default folders to the D drive. All my software installed and runs just fine. I only edited the Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\profilelink section of the registry to all point to the correct folder structure on the D drive. I have done this on many systems and never had a problem. Here's where the problem is ... this computer belongs to someone else. He somehow created at least 4 copies of his data files nested together inside his User folder. I have been working a couple of days now trying to prune out the duplicate files and links. I must have accidentally deleted something I should not have because all of a sudden in this user account the "paste" function is missing from the right click menu inside windows explorer. I can still manually paste with keystrokes, but I can't right click to paste any more. All of the other commands are still there, and if I login as another user the menu is correct ... the paste option is visible. I still have at least 2 more extra copies of his data files in the user folder to get rid of. I have pruned the D drive down from over 400gig to about 150gig. What could I have accidentally deleted to cause this to happen and what do I do to fix it? The OS is completely up to date as far as Windows updates are concerned. I ran a system files scan from the command line and it is normal. I thought about moving the data files from the account temporarily, remove the user, recreate the user and see if that works. If it breaks something else I don't want to have to start all over again. I hope I have been explicit enough in my problem description. Please don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have. I have been in IT for about 20 years and never seen a file structure as messed up as his currently is and have not ever seen this problem before. I am not afraid to manually edit the registry if that is what it takes. Thanks in advance for your help.
